Flag waving recently has been in the forefront of the current election. Some argue that it’s an important symbol to prove one’s patriotism while some believe that patriotism is proven by action! The “Superheroes Fashion and Fantasy” exhibition from The Costume Institute at The Met, categorizes “The Patriotic Body” as one of the superhero themes. In the golden age of comic books, Wonder Woman’s and Captain America’s patriotic costumes clearly represented America’s strength throughout World War II. The exhibit goes further to demonstrate examples from Bernhard Willhelm and Catherine Malandrino that use the flag icongraphy to either politicize or commemerate contemporary ideology and events .
