Cate T. Corcoran of WWD reported on a fascinating study comparing Chinese and American women body types.
As the Chinese market is positioned for incredible growth, and being such an expansive country, the population is indicating that the growth is in body measurements too.
But compared to American percentages, popular sizes in China are between 0 – 8 and the US offers 0 – 20 to be a commercial brand. The change in China are between 35 – 45 with an increased body mass index and children have grown 1.5 inches.
Comparing average measurements Chinese women stand 5′ 4″, 125 lbs, with bust, waist, hips of 31-28-35. Americans contrast at 155 lbs, with measurements of 37-34-42 with the same height.
The study was conducted by Alvanon a fit-mannequin company and scanning 28,000 people from Chinese malls using the Intellifit scanners. Overall, China is smaller and homogeneous compared to a more diverse and bigger American population with the younger generation getting larger.
