Fashion isn’t just clothes, but a culture that now has even inspired a comic book. The creator Dave Sim has crafted a super hero fashionista named Glamourpuss. The zine follows our heroine through the perils of being fashionable while mitigating through the beauty headlines. Cover stories such as “There’s Nothing Funny about Anti-Depressants” and “Skanko’s Top 5 Ways to Drive Men Wild in Bed” give much needed advice and support for anyone with dreams of a fashionlicious lifestyle.

The heart of the project is of course the art. Comic books introduced me to drawing with it’s stylized figures and I was very amused to find hero and fashion worship combined. Dave Sim also pays homage to the glitterati of comic book artists such as Hal Foster, Alex Raymond and Milt Caniff. This produces a very cool fashion illustration style featured in the pages. Interesting, as Glamourpuss is “ripped from the catwalk” creates very effective product placement from design houses that may have found a new audience.
