Sunday morning I was introduced to singer composer Corey Dargel on NPR’s Weekend Edition. His new album “Other People’s Love Songs” is an original project using love stories from friends and commissions as lyrics. Feeling a little like a voyeur, I enjoyed the narrative listening to the couple’s detailed stories and began to compare them to my own history with Chris. For fun, the album downloaded with the couple’s names attached to each song. Dargel cleverly stayed away for the usual “love” generalities but instead crooned about the couple’s abstract attraction that really describe love. Even a few domestic conflicts, create some tension from to track to track. With very operatic lush melodies keeps me smiling and wondering what I would write for my love song. The album is available on iTunes and New Amsterdam Records. Visit Corey Dargel for future shows.
