The recent controversy circling around First Lady Michelle Obama’s penchant for ‘sleeveless’ seems to have been ripped from the headlines of The Onion. But The Onion is a faux satirical newspaper (or is it?). Subjectivity is the core of fashion, and apparently the reason so much attention has been placed on the appropriateness of showing skin. My favorite is the quote posted on The Huffington Post from a reader’s comment published in The Chicago Sun Times.
“‘Does the lady not understand that these Big Speech Events are serious and important? Not a cocktail party?’” wrote one Chicago Tribune reader. “”The season is winter. The occasion is business. Dress was wrong place and time.’”
