Listening to my only internet radio station, Soma FM, you can follow them on Twitter here, I was introduced to Seattle’s The Long Winters . After playing ‘The Commander Thinks Aloud’, one of those rich melodic lush instrumental vocals, I cherry picked my playlist on iTunes from candied rock sounds to power pop. Releasing new music between 2003 – 2006, the band fronted by John Roderick has been compared to R.E.M., Soul Asylum or Counting Crows. Maybe a mellower Michael Stipe, but their guest artists Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie and Decemberists, Chris Funk along with Roderick keep indie rock going with a pop sensibility. Check out their site for free downloads.
