Aids-3d at Younger Than Jesus
Attending Artlog’s LES Art Crawl last night I didn’t think that age would be the focal point. Not really the event, but the New Museum’s Younger Than Jesus got the conversation going. Choosing artists born after 1976 from 150 art networks, the exhibit pulls from the Millenial generation’s icongraphy shaped by societal events.
More than the art, the crowd amplified the museum’s mission generating the party energy. Interestingly, reading a few reviews posted on their blog, the age criteria seem to overshadow the installation with unrealistic expectations. I have the perspective that reinvention is just the personal experience of reoccurring themes.
Below are some highlights from YTJ and favorites from galleries on Saturday’s crawl. I especially thought the backroom films at Ludlow 38 by Duncan Campbell’s animated surrealist spoken word performance and at Invisible-Exports by Clifton Childree’s Victorian pornocopia were made for the LES mystique.
