In celebration of our recent glorious sunny weather, I’m inspired to share this wonderfully graphic felt-tip drawing by American artist Charles Ray. More interesting, this study is quite out of character for the modernist sculptor.
Even classical schemes can’t escape super-contemporary artists. Included in MoMA’s ‘Compass in Hand: Selections from The Judith Rothschild Foundation Contemporary Drawings Collection’, Ray’s botanical example is among 3 hundred eclectic works on paper. Wonderfully curated, it makes you reconsider the immediacy of drawing.
