This Saturday, July 18, El Museo del Barrio (El Museo del Barrio 1230 Fifth Avenue at 104th Street) will have another Afternoons at El Rufo from 4- 7pm! The first event of a summer was a full house and this one should be no different. Expect lots of dancing, complimentary drinks, and music as varied as the people of Latinoamerica. Salsa dura, soulful house, hip hop classics, and garage disco blend into one sweet sonic summer batido that does down smooth. And it’s all FREE!
Although this event is free, but space is limited. RSVP at www.elmuseo.org or reserve your spot. All others will be admitted at a first come, first served basis.
El Museo has partnered up with Rooftop Films and shows films every 3rd Saturday from 8-11. Again, an overcapacity crowd with live music and a great indie film.
Rooftop Films @ El Museo: Los Herederos
8pm–11pm
Los Herederos (The Inheritors) takes an intimate look at the heritage of poverty in rural Latin America, where back-breaking work begins almost at birth, schooling is largely out of reach, and yet, children develop amazing skills to help their families stay afloat. Director: Eugenio Polgovsky (Mexico, 90 min. Spanish with English subtitles). Live pre-show musical performance by Lazaro Valiente from Mexico City at 8:30pm; film begins at 9pm.
