Throughout my Thanksgiving holiday travel (happily no dramas!) I’ve been adding to my iPhone Apps collection. Pantone, the universal color matching system created a clever colorful application to release the inner Josef Albers in you. Select from the color book profiles and begin to tap in search of attractive swatches and begin to build your studies. Tap again on individual colors and the app will specify RGB, LAB or HTML values. Or use the iPhone camera to grab inspirational color images and the program will automatically identify the dominant hues. You can tweak the tints, tones and shades and also view additional harmonies! Create a myPANTONE account to upload your palettes to share with the online color community. Another great feature is the ability to email finished color studies listed with the swatch information. This is not a replacement for the Pantone traditional fans and cotton swatches, but I can imagine the brainstorming I’ll develop on my subway commutes.
