Fashion Gestures for the New Year

I thought to post a few more of the quick sketches captured while teaching the model drawing courses this past semester. In the process, I prefer to quickly express the model’s movement in only a few lines and that has begun to influence my style of fashion design illustration using the computer. Rekindling a new appreciation of newsprint and dry markers, I plan to build a new library of brush styles in Adobe Illustrator to encompass the uneven quality of the media. Pixel programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Painter are designed to replicate these textures but don’t always allow for infinite editing capabilities that are inherent in vector software. And as fashion designers are working out ideas for their collections, the ability to refine and evolve the idea without constantly re-drawing spotlights more the design rather than the drawing.
