Reinvention is a constant state of mind for every creative type, and NYC illustrator, artist and educator Glenn Tunstull is sharing his journey. Tunstull will be speaking this Sunday, March 28, 3:00 PM at the Claverack Free Library as a part of their ongoing artist discussion series.
Glenn Tunstull’s career began at Women’s Wear Daily and made history as the first African-American illustrator after finishing his studies from Parsons School of Design. The fashion industry quickly got to know Tunstull’s style through his vibrant sketches and he continued to creatively explore his work traveling to Paris and Milan.
Returning to New York, Tunstull began illustrating for fashion publications such as GQ and The New York Times. In the ’90s as photography became more dominant than illustration, Tunstull turned his eye to the exotic locations he would travel with his partner, Joe Steele, and began to record the scenic landscapes.
Finding success and cultivating a following from the exhibits, Tunstull divides his time between painting and traveling while teaching fashion drawing at Parsons School of Design. You can see in his new work the sweeping motion found in fashion illustration but now using the dabs of paint describing the big skies.
