The clear skies continue in NYC echoing Paul Caranicas‘ new show On The Edge on view at Bernarducci Meisel Gallery.
Building upon his exploration begun three years ago, the sky has become the central image in Caranicas’ paintings relegating the land and cityscapes to the far edges of the canvas.
The ‘edge’ framing the sky includes sculptural elements, architectural and natural objects. These details may be recognizable or anonymous often seen in our peripheral vision describing the landscape.
The exhibition catalog shares Caranicas’ progression as he developed these striking compositions ‘painting with photographs’ shown in the image below. From a large photo library, Caranicas begins to construct his ‘sketches’ developing infinite possibilities.
