Last week I attended the final event of SVA’s MFA Interaction Design Dot Dot Dot lecture series The Entrepreneurs at Galapagos Art Space in Dumbo.
The event featured 5 founders of emerging businesses that have designed their success from innovative health care and communication, culinary experience and alternative fundraising for creative projects.
One of the speakers, Yancey Strickler of Kickstarter, the new funding platform that connects ideas to patrons highlighted Allison Weiss. A success story, graphic design student and singer/songwriter from Athens, Georgia, Allison raised funds and found sponsors for her new album through the network.
With moxie and wit, Allison uploaded video testimonials offering sponsor levels quickly attracting a large online audience. By coincidence, I unexpectedly caught one of Allison’s shows at Rockwood Music Hall here in NYC. And judging from the elbow to elbow room, Allison has a large fan base from Athens to the Lower East Side.
Ms. Weiss graduates this May and is moving to New York. Check out her social network and get a lot of free stuff from Allison.
