UGRR Festival Webart 1 Singin Wid A Sword: Spirited by Song

Singin Wid A Sword In Ma Han to be performed at The First Annual NYC Underground Railroad Festival, June 19, 2010

As NYC summer events have officially commenced, August will bring the New York International Fringe Festival promising a garden variety of underground theatre. Spotlighting a wide range of themes from political to outrageous by indie writers, directors, actors and musicians, these artists will be discovered by a larger audience.

Last year’s audience award favorite Singin Wid A Sword In Ma Han, a vivid history lesson told by one woman’s escape from slavery to freedom through the 1850s underground railroad will be staged again June 19, 2010. The oral storytelling set to vibrant spirituals moves the audience through the historical turning point by the play’s lead and playwright Vienna Carroll and direction by Keith Johnston.

You can see Singin Wid A Sword In Ma Han at the first annual NYC Underground Railroad Festival. The event will take place at Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn Heights, Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 1-5:00pm.

Visit the festival’s site for more information.
