I Wish Your Wish by Rivane Neuenschwander

New Museum’s main lobby gallery continues this summer’s trend of participatory art by Brazilian artist Rivane Neuenschwander.

Offering a kaleidoscope of affirmations printed on satin ribbons in a collection entitled I Wish Your Wish, visitors are invited to choose their desire.

Inspired by a practice that takes place at the church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim in Salvador, (Our Lord of the Good End) the ribbons are tied around the wrist.

Based on the tradition, when the ribbon falls off, one’s wish has been granted.

Even if you can’t participate in-person, the project is also available online at New Museum’s website.
