Artist Melissa Carroll, Mad Max, 48 x 60 inches, oil on canvas, 2010. From Williamsburg Gitana Rosa gallery’s new show Hung. Figurative painting has been enjoying a renaissance and the Gitana Rosa gallery in Williamsburg selected the male nude for a second look or revival in their new show Hung.
Maybe I was influenced by Brooklyn’s local vibe but the show captured the sensitive artisan, poetic hipster and of course the Brooklyn boyz. The exhibition weaved together the perceptions from male and female painters expressing their gaze on the contemporary male form.
A wonderful beginning snapshot on this century’s male figure contrasted by our past recognition. Check out this link for gallery information and hours.
