Minimalist Berlin based artist Sergej Jensen creates his paintings with cloth as he describes “painting without paint.” Currently on view at MoMA P.S.1 until May 2, 2011, Jensen’s play of linens, silks, cashmeres, burlaps, and wools exposed to a range of conditions or wear result in a study of the texture’s subtle beauty. As fashion designers combine their materials and find interest in simple tonal or surface contrasts, I included a few runway examples from the recent New York Fashion Week Fall 2011.
