Inspired by 15th century fan vaulting of Bath Abbey and borrowing materials from the aircraft world, David Henderson creates a deceptively simple installation of soaring arcs.

Currently at Dumbo’s Smack Mellon, A History of Aviation – Part 2 designed on the computer and crafted from foam and wrapped in fiberglass and epoxy resin, the ribs are skinned using heat-shrink Dacron fabric. Installed in the cavernous gallery, Henderson’s gothic vaulting continuously repeats his beautiful sweeping curves.

The exhibition is on view through April 10th, 2011 at Smack Mellon.
