Alexander McQueen Fall 2009
Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty opens tomorrow at The Met’s Costume Institute through July 31, 2011, in a season of fashion design retrospectives. Fashion, having evolved from a concentrated commercial applied art to a personal emotional statement that has always been paramount in McQueen’s vision.
My McQueen favorite comes from a clever 2009 Fall commentary on consumerism reacting to our credit hangover depicting imagined fashion trash heaps. But pragmatically from all of his dramatically staged collections, the boutiques offered as a counterpoint beautifully tailored essentials.
Dazed Digital posted today a Q & A with the exhibition’s curator, Andrew Bolton that you can read here.
