Festival of Ideas for the New City StreetFest, May 7, 2011

Yesterday, NYC’s The New Museum got a head start on the perennial summer street festivals that block off city streets throughout the 5 boroughs. Taking over the Bowery on the Lower East Side, StreetFest is part of Festival of Ideas for The New City led by The New Museum in a 4 day event.

A collaborative initiative that connects the creative community, the StreetFest brought to scale independent projects and businesses incubating in the city. My art-crawl partner, Stacy and I began the afternoon screening t-shirts supplied by Works In Progress NYC while viewing all the public art projects.

With an emphasis on “creating and sustainability” the community fest brought much of the Brooklyn craft to Manhattan. Nuit Blanche New York that debuted last year in Brooklyn’s Greenpoint industrial streets finished the evening with Flash:Light illuminating and projection mapping on the museum and downtown’s landmarks.
